Dead deer not welcome sight on town greeting sign; suspects sought

Police investigating this crime

"Whoever.....Redneck, Yuppie, Southerner, Yankee, Neighbor, Family, or Friend.....we wanna know.....If you have any information on this incident.....please call the Many Police Department," pleas an officer with the city police department of Many, Louisiana, a rural community in west central Louisiana.

Officer Dean Lambert said police responded to a report of an animal lying on top of the Welcome to Many sign located on Louisiana Hwy. 6 East. Responding officers found that a deer had been draped across the sign, Lambert explained.

From an examination of the animal, the officers determined the deer had been struck on the highway and then placed on the sign by unknown persons.

Police are wanting to solve the messy crime.

"We think that if someone intentionally placed a dead animal on the sign, and that act caused damage to that property, then it would fall into the category of Simple Criminal Damage to Property," Lambert explained. "This offense is defined by Louisiana law as intentionally damaging of someone else’s property without the owner’s consent. The type of charge you face depends on the value of the damage caused. If the value of damage is less than $500, you could face up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine. If the value of the damage is between $500 and $50,000, you could face up to two years in prison and $1,000 in fines."
