Photoperiodism- the phenomenon which allows birds and other animals to adapt to seasonal changes in their environment through their physiology and behavior, and signals to them the most favorable time of the year to produce offspring. Basically, it is Mother Nature signaling the change of seasons... daylight length is one factor.

From The Atlantic Monthly, by Andrew Cohen: A federal lawsuit filed last week in Louisiana contains some of the most startling allegations you will ever see against public school officials accused of unlawfully turning their school into a bastion of Christian belief. In western Louisiana's Sabine Parish, one family alleges, teachers preach Creationism and mock the theory of evolution, routinely lead their students in Christian prayer, give extra credit for Christian responses to assignments, and actively question or deride the religious beliefs of non-Christian students and parents.

"I wish I was as successful as he is," the mayor of Toronto, Canada said today in defense of Canada's pint size pop star Justin Bieber. Mayor Rob Ford, who has admitted to smoking crack on more than one occasion, asked the general public to understand that Bieber is just 19. This was in response to Bieber's second arrest in the last week... the latest being an arrest by Toronto Police for allegedly assaulting a limo driver who was transporting him around.

The man accused of posing as a teen girl in phone texts and killing a 12-year-old Louisiana boy is headed to trial... soon, a DeSoto Parish judge said.

It's taken close to four years to move the case to trial. Justin Bloxom, of North DeSoto Parish, was smothered to death in March 2010. Brian Horn, a 37-year-old twice convicted sex offender, is accused of luring the pre-teen away from a friend's home by portraying himself as a girl in text messages to Bloxom.
